The Pantanal
The Barranco Alto Farm lies on the banks of the Rio Negro (Black River), in the Southern Pantanal. The best way to reach the farm is by private plane from Campo Grande. Another option is a 6 hour drive in a 4×4 vehicle from Campo Grande.
Founded in the beginning of the twentieth century, the Barranco Alto Farm is considered one of the oldest in this region and still preserves old farming habits. The lodge is small (four rooms with a private veranda), so each guest is provided personalized service.
All tours are accompanied by either the owner, Lucas Leuzinger (who has a masters in biology), or his wife Marina (who has a master’s in agronomy), together with local Pantanal guides. The programs and activities can be adapted to suit the particular desires of each person.
The farm is rustically decorated with ceiling fans and meals are served around a large communal table. In addition, you can live the day-to-day life of an authentic Pantanal cowboy, savour typical local dishes and sleep in a traditional house which offers all the necessary comforts for a cosy stay.
