La Perla
Leon
Leon
Set back from the street, it is a welcome and most tranquil retreat after a busy day walking around taking in the sights of the city. The central courtyard is filled with brightly coloured flowers and fountains. And in a second courtyard there is a small but exquisitely designed swimming pool. The owner is passionate about Nicaraguan history and art – there is a wonderful collection of paintings, maps and antique furniture.
It is a small hotel with just 15 rooms, set on two levels. Some have a view of the pretty courtyard garden and others a lovely view over the city itself. All have air-con and LCD TVs. The junior suites are extremely large with high ceilings, wide black iron grated windows, and warm carpeted floors. The locally made antique mahogany sideboard, wardrobe and lounge chairs are reassuringly solid. Standard rooms overlooking the pool area are smaller but still extremely comfortable.
Located on a quiet street just minutes north of the central park and cathedral, you are in walking distance from all the sights. There is a restaurant and a great old–fashioned bar for a relaxing drink.
