Aninga Lodge
Aninga has 30 individual cabanas which are spacious and simple. Rooms have either one king bed or two queen beds, en-suite facilities, a small balcony and a ceiling fan and hot and cold running water. The cabanas are spread out over a relatively large area so you have the feeling of being in an individual room, though some do face each other. All rooms and facilities are linked by a concrete platform (the platforms used to be wood, but are now all being changed to the more durable concrete) that runs through the jungle. The restaurant serves buffet style food and has a pleasant bar area away from the rest of the rooms and the restaurant. The bar area is next to the large pool, complete with small waterfall and the spa â the only one inside the national park and a new addition to the lodge â which covers most treatments, including the new water massage, where you are given your massage in a Jacuzzi or swimming pool!

ITINERARY Day 1 (Saturday) Arrive at Balta Island Once you arrive at Baltra airport, you will clear immigration and be met by your guide, and escorted to the harbour. A motorized dinghy will then transfer you to the M/C Athala II, where you will be welcomed by the Captain and crew. Mosquera Islet This tiny islet is actually home to a huge population of sea lions and is also home to many shorebirds. While at Mosquera, keep your eyes peeled, as there are occasional reports of dolphins and orcas sightings. Difficulty level: Easy. Day 2 Santiago Island - Sullivan Bay Santiago Island is known for its spectacular volcanic formations, relatively young pahoehoe lava flows and unique geological scenery. Due to Sullivanâs relatively recent volcanic activity, few plants have been able to take root here, much less be successful, so pay particular interest to the low-lying pioneer plant known locally as âmollugoâ as well as the lava cactus. Difficulty level: Moderate. Bartolome Bartolome is a small island that has two visitor sites. At the first site, you can snorkel around Pinnacle Rock, where penguins are usually seen. Then, itâs back on board for a quick change of clothes followed by a short dinghy ride to a dry landing for a climb to the highest point on the island. On the way up, you will encounter different volcanic formations, including spatter and tuff cones, lava flow and lava tubes. From the summit you will have a wonderful view of Sullivan Bay. For those not interested in the hike, there is the option of a panga ride. Usual fauna and flora also includes sea lions, pioneer plants, reef sharks, rays and colourful reef fish. Difficulty Level: Moderate. Day 3 Isabela Island â Urbina Bay Urbina Bay is located in Western Isabela, at the foot of Alcedo volcano. After landing on a beautiful black-sand beach, you may be able to observe sea turtle nesting sites. This area is also known for penguin and flightless cormorant sightings and is one of the best places to see Darwinâs finches as well as large land iguanas. Be on the lookout for wild Galapagos tortoises which like to feed within the siteâs dense vegetation. Difficulty level: Moderate. Isabela Island â Tagus Cove Tagus Cove was historically used as an anchoring place for pirates, buccaneers and whalers. On the hike, the trail goes through an area of vegetation and the volcanic landscape of Darwin volcano. At the top of the trail, you will enjoy an incredible view of the whole cove and Darwin Lake. Enjoy snorkelling, kayaking and dinghy rides. Difficulty level: Easy to Difficult. Day 4 Fernandina â Espinosa Point Fernandina Island is one of the most pristine ecosystems in the entire world and also one of the most dynamic. La Cumbre Volcano last erupted in April 2009 and also dominates the landscape with lava fields stretching towards the ocean from its base. Punta Espinoza is a narrow piece of land where some of the most unique Galapagos species can be seen, including the flightless cormorant, Galapagos snakes, marine iguanas, penguins and the Galapagos hawk. Difficulty level: Moderate. Isabela Island â Vicente Roca Point Punta Vicente Roca is a wonderful snorkelling site, where you can usually see turtles as well as all kinds of fish. For those who do not snorkel, a dinghy ride will give you the opportunity to study some of the Galapagos spectacular geological rock formations. Nazca boobies, pelicans, swallow-tailed gulls, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants and penguins are often seen in the area. Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate. Day 5 Santiago â Puerto Egas The trail leads to tidal pools which are home to a variety of invertebrate organisms, including sea urchins, octopus and starfish. You will also see marine iguanas, finches, oyster catchers and possibly the Galapagos Hawk. The trail leads to the Fur Sea Lion Grottos, one of the only places in the islands where these unique animals can be seen. After the walk, you will have time to swim or snorkel off the beach, where you will see sea lions, fish and maybe some turtles, rays and reef sharks. Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate. Santiago Island â Espumilla Beach The Espumilla Beach visitor site is on the northern coast of Santiago Island in James Bay. The main attractions here are a Palo Santo forest, the beach and the landscape. The Palo Santo forest at Espumilla has some of the tallest specimens of the species in the entire archipelago. Also look out for the Galapagos Hawk as well as Darwinâs finches. The beach is an important site for nesting marine turtles. Difficulty level: Easy. Day 6 Santa Cruz â Puerto Ayora: Charles Darwin Research Station & Highlands On your visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station you will gain insight into the great efforts being made by scientists, guides, rangers and park managers to preserve this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will see the famous Galapagos tortoises that are the islandsâ namesake. After the visit we drive to the green highlands of Santa Cruz, where you will visit a tortoise reserve to search for giant tortoises in their natural surroundings. The afternoon is at leisure. Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate. Day 7 Genovesa Island â El Barranco El Barranco, also known as Prince Phillipâs Steps, is a steep path with stairs carved into the rock which leads to a plateau full of bird life amongst a Palo Santo forest. You will see Nazca boobies, Galapagos doves, mockingbirds and petrels. With some luck, you may spot a short-eared lava owl. Difficulty level: Moderate. Genovesa Island â Darwin Bay Darwin Bayâs soft, coralline white sand is only the beginning of a spectacular excursion. A trail from the beach takes you into lush mangroves where red footed boobies nest. Other locals include sea lions, swallow-tail gulls, frigates and more. Snorkelling is a must here as sharks, colourful reef fish, rays and turtles are common. Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate. Day 8 North Seymour North Seymour may very well be the perfect way to say goodbye to the Galapagos Islands. Although the island is characterized by arid vegetation, fauna abounds and you will soon find yourself surrounded by sea lions, blue footed boobies, marine iguanas, frigate birds and more. Difficulty level: Moderate. You will then be transferred to Baltra airport for your flight back to the mainland.

The resort is best known for its diving facilities, which are extensive and include some 10 dive boats along with numerous smaller boats for snorkelling trips. The Dolphins are also a big attraction, not only for guests staying here but also people from all over the island. The dolphins perform a small show, but the highlight is where they bring the dolphins into the open water to allow you to both dive and swim with them â a truly memorable experience. The 49 rooms â 10 of which are on the mainland and the remainder on the Key â are all made of local wood, have en-suite facilities and either shared or private balconies. Some of the newer rooms have air conditioning and this is where the price difference between the rooms lies. All the rooms have a sea view, though some of them are standing on stilts in the water, giving them a beautiful Caribbean feel to them. The interior dĂ©cor is simple and understated whilst the beds are either small doubles, queens or occasionally king size.  Each of the balconies has sitting areas and hammocks and the wooden cabanas are in a circle around the islands beach. It is operated by AerovĂas DAP, which has more than 20 years of experience of flying in Patagonia and Antarctica. The boat The M/V Ocean Nova is a modern and comfortable vessel. She was built in Denmark in 1992 to sail the ice-choked waters of Greenland, and her ice-strengthened hull is ideally suited for expedition travel in Antarctica. The M/V Ocean Nova has capacity for 68 passengers accommodated in comfortable outside cabins, all with private facilities, including dedicated single, twin and triple cabins. In addition to a glass-enclosed observation lounge and presentation room, a spacious dining room, a bar and library, she also has an infirmary and an exercise room. The ship has Zodiac boats that are well suited for disembarking and wildlife watching. The itinerary Jumping over Cape Horn and the mythical waters of the Drake Passage, ANTARCTICA XXI invites you to a unique experience that will take you to one of the most remote places on earth, the coldest, highest, windiest, driest, and most inhospitable continent - Antarctica. Day 1. Arrive Punta Arenas Arrive in Punta Arenas where you will be met by Antarctica XXI staff, to be transferred to Hotel Rey Don Felipe. During the afternoon, you will meet your expedition mates and receive instructions concerning the guidelines that should be followed in Antarctica and the procedures for Zodiac boat embarkation and disembarkation. Later, you will enjoy our welcome dinner at the JosĂ© Nogueira Hotel, a French-style mansion that is over one hundred years old. N.B. Passengers should be in Punta Arenas at 15:00 hours, at the latest. Day 2. Fly to Antarctica, board boat Our Antarctic adventure will begin with the flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island (South Shetland Islands). The flight takes a little over one and half hour. Upon arrival, we will be able to tour around the area where the Frei Chilean Base and the Bellingshausen Russian Base are located. We will gather at the beach on Fildes Bay for embarkation by Zodiac boats on board our expedition vessel. Days 3 to 6. In Antarctica While cruising between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, sailing along ice-filled fjords and between spectacular icebergs, we will enjoy the company of sea birds, penguins, seals and whales. Our journey southwards will include visits to some of the most magnificent spots in the white continent, such as: Livingston Island, Port Lockroy, Petermann Island, Paradise Bay, Cuverville and Deception Islands amongst others. Our target will be the crossing of the Lemaire Channel and latitude 65° South. Our adventure will be very active, with several daily landings and cruises in Zodiac boats, lectures and a very enjoyable time on board. Day 7. Fly Punta Arenas Return to King George Island where we will disembark, in Zodiac boats, at the Frei Chilean Base, and head to the aerodrome to take the flight back to Punta Arenas. The program ends upon arrival at the Airport in Punta Arenas. Transfer to the city will be available for passengers staying overnight in Punta Arenas. One complimentary night at Hotel Rey Don Felipe in Punta Arenas is offered upon request on Day 7 of the Travel Program. It is important to note that until present no air-cruise has ever been cancelled due to the impossibility to fly to Antarctica, and that the longest delay ever suffered has been 2 days. Consequently, ANTARCTICA XXI is able to estimate that the chances that an Antarctic flight suffers 1 day delay are very low, about 5%-10%. However, in the light of these considerations, in the unlikely event that the flight to Antarctica cannot take place due to unfavourable conditions either at point of origin and/or destination, ANTARCTICA XXI has established a contingency Plan, applying from day 2 the Travel Program corresponding to each voyage.
