IBERA WETLANDS HOLIDAYS

The Ibera Natural Reserve, which in Guarani means ‘brilliant waters’, is located in the far northeast of Argentina and is a wetland reserve with an abundance of wildlife. The Ibera marsh is the second largest wetland areas in the world (the largest being the Pantanal in Brazil) with a surface area the size of a small country (equivalent to the size of Wales) and is the home of a significant variety of flora & fauna.
It is a natural paradise unique in its type and shelters over 340 different types of bird along with a range of mammals; pampa deer, Capvbara, caiman, anaconda, giant anteater and the elusive jaguar.

Every year during the wet season, November to April, over ¾ of this area becomes inundated by the complex river system and the rivers are not able to cope, overflowing their banks. During this season only islands and forests on higher elevations remain dry. During the season, May to October, the floodplain drains leaving behind small pockets of water, trapping the fish, which in turn attracts large numbers of migratory birds and resident mammals.
