Barra de Sao Miguel is a small fishing village in the heart of Bahia. The area is lined with pristine Brazilian beaches, most of which are deserted, making it a perfect place to beachcomb and get away from it all. The town itself has a few bars and restaurants, but really you come here for the beach.
The centre of this small village sits on the riverbank, facing Praia do Gunga, an idyllic, white-sand beach that curves all the way around to the Rio São Miguel to the north. Indeed, Barra isn’t much of a destination in itself: it’s better known as the gateway to Praia do Gunga, where the local beaches are protected by a huge offshore reef, leaving the waters calm for bathing or kayaking.

Whilst here you can rent a dune buggy and explore the remote beaches, or simply switch off and relax.

OYSTER EXPERIENCE

This tour to an oyster farm is done in a native wooden boat, through one of the most beautiful areas of Alagoas called the Roteiro´s Lagoon. It is surrounded by mangroves and rain forest and you will literally taste the oysters on the spot!
