Luxury hotels in Peru have changed completely over the last 5 years. There have been numerous multi-million dollar investments in luxury hotel properties in Peru. Not only from upscale Peruvian names, but also international brands like Hilton, Orient Express, and J.W. Marriott. It used to be that a holiday in Peru was ALL about the destination and you were given a very limited choice of hotels to choose from. Today, you are spoilt for choice. The hotel scene has been transformed and the selection of luxury Peru hotels keeps getting better every year. We specialise in characterful luxury, boutique properties that provide an authentic travel experience – Peru now has a bounty of them on offer.
Inkaterra hotels
The luxury Peru hotels leading the way are the locally owned Inkaterra group. Their hotels are simply superb – stay there in Cuzco (La Casona), Machu Picchu (Machu Picchu Pueblo hotel), the Amazon (Reserva Amazonica) and the newly opened Sacred Valley hotel (Hacienda Urubamba).
Exotic yet reachable, Inkaterra has pioneered ecotourism and sustainable development in Peru by providing authentic travel experiences. The main reason we like the Inkaterra hotels is because they have been created in harmony with their local surroundings and although we never like a chain hotel, this group are different. We also like the fact that a luxury Peru holiday can be experienced in hotels owned by local people. This will of course have a positive impact on the local economy in the long run.
Hotel B
Another favourite luxury Peru hotel is the relatively new Hotel B in Lima from Relais & Chateaux. Adorned with marble, exotic woods, an elegant, columned white façade, wide balconies and sky high ceilings it has a distinctive charm all of its own. The rooms are extremely spacious, there is incredible personal service and we particularly like the bar area!
The Titilaka Hotel
The Titilaka Hotel located on the edge of Lake Titicaca has stunning rooms overlooking Lake Titicaca. An outstanding luxury Peru hotel it has a wide range of tailor made activities included, from nature and local archaeology to discovering spiritual traditions. Titilaka – another Relais and Chateaux property – is hidden away in this unique natural landscape, totally off the beaten track on its own private peninsula, in a refurbished building. Once again, responsible sustainable development is at the heart of Titilaka’s philosophy, where more than 90% of the staff are locals.
Casa Andina Private Collection
A long standing favourite luxury Peru hotel of ours is the Casa Andina private collection located in the historic centre of Arequipa. This spectacular colonial building dates from 1794 and has been converted into a hotel whilst still retaining all the details of a bygone era. All rooms are decorated in an Andean style and there are a variety of rooms here. Make sure you talk to us to make sure you find the right one!
So if you thought Peru was a backwater destination, think again, luxury Peru hotels are leading the way. With other new upscale properties due to open up there is no doubt we shall be back there soon to experience them first hand!
